Σακελλαρίου με στόχο τη δημιουργία πυρήνος συστηματικών ερευνών γύρω από τη μελέτη της Αρχαιότητος, ιδιαίτερα σε θεματικές περιοχές και σε χρονολογικές περιόδους, όπου η καθυστέρηση της έρευνας παρείχε έδαφος για θετική ελληνική συμβολή στον διεθνή επιστημονικό στίβο της σπουδής της Αρχαιογνωσίας. Σήμερα στον τομέα ερευνώνται όλες οι εκφάνσεις της ελληνικής αρχαιότητος από τους προϊστορικούς χρόνους, έως το τέλος του αρχαίου κόσμου τον Ζ' αιώνα μ.Χ.",
